Call To Action
The Call to Action project began when the Youth Council was wrapping up another major project, and the team was discussing how they would like to move forward when considering future projects.
One of the major considerations was finding more youth voices to give input into areas of need and their experiences relating to factors surrounding youth homelessness. The Call to Action was proposed, within this discussion. Youth within our Youth Council have voiced a need to have their voices amplified, and become more involved within their communities, to prevent youth homelessness.
This project is innovative because it is a unique action research project that educates youths about homelessness, and collects data about their experiences and perceptions through project based learning opportunities. This project is also innovative because of the longitudinal nature where certain proposals submitted will be implemented and community change can be monitored through future call to actions.
We aim to inform youth about youth homelessness in order to destigmatize the topic and prevent it through knowledge translation. We would also like to collaborate with youth to create projects that are informed based on their experiences, to amplify youth voices and fill gaps in services that could create social change. Finally we would like to collect data on barriers youth are experiencing and perceptions surrounding youth homelessness to inform our future practice.
